Last weekend we were determined to pack as many activities in those 2 days as we could. I was excited because we only get 4 short days a month that we are both off work and get to spend time together. I searched the internet the whole week before for somewhere to stay at either Starved Rock or Lake Geneva but I waited too long and all the good places were booked. I was disappointed because I didn't have everything planned out but we decided to go anyway and just wing it.
At the last minute Saturday morning, we decided to just hop in the car and drive to Starved Rock. Alexis was excited even though she had no idea what we were doing (and either did we!)
We did a little hiking on the trails, ate and decided to go on a boat cruise down the river.
snacking on some raisins while cruising... she was most intrigued by the paddle
I'm not sure if you can tell by my face, but I wasn't in the greatest of moods at this point. Long story, but we were directed to go to the wrong place to get on the boat (I think it was intentional which really made me mad) which required us to drive about 10 minutes.... just far enough for Andrew to fall asleep and almost miss the boat by the time we got where we were supposed to be-- where we started!!!
I finally cooled off by the end of the ride, although I was still upset because I knew Andrew would have loved it and would have never fallen asleep if we wouldn't have taken the car ride that we didn't need to.
After that, we decided to grab a bite to eat and head back home.
We stopped by home, grabbed our swimsuits and went to the pool!!
It was only our 2nd time this year. The kids were way more comfortable this time and it was quite scary! They loved jumping off the side and Alexis didn't want anyone to catch her. She would practice closing her eyes and mouth and jump under water.... and not come up! She made me so nervous that we borrowed some life jackets!
Sunday morning after church, we took an impromptu train ride downtown Chicago. This was not at all in our plans but it sounded like fun so we did it.
The kids loved the train ride and it sure beat all the traffic and parking fees. We did a TON of walking but it was really fun to do something different.
I think they were pretending to sleep?
walking along the pier.... wish we knew someone with a boat :)
We finally made it to the beach! I think this was Alexis and Andrew's favorite part of the weekend. They loved playing in the sand!
We didn't think to bring our suits because it was so last minute but they didn't mind at all!
This little guy was in all of his glory!!
I'm so glad we decided to make the most of our weekend.... it was so much fun!!!
