Mystery Reader

Today we surprised Alexis and went to her classroom at preschool!  For their birthday at school, a parent or grandparent can come and be a "mystery reader" and read a favorite book for their child and bring treats.  Since I'm not into public speaking, I talked Albert into doing it :)  Andrew and I came along and watched.  When we first got there, all the kids were sitting on the rug with their eyes closed waiting to see who the mystery reader was.  As soon as she saw Albert sitting in the chair, she got up and sat by him.  She was soooo shy.  The teacher couldn't believe how she went from so outgoing and talkative in class to shy so quickly.  As Albert was reading, she sat close and by the end of the story, she was hanging on him and practically on his lap.  After the story, her teacher gave her a crown to wear and necklace with a number 4 and everyone sang Happy Birthday to her.

Happy Birthday Alexis!

Today my baby turned 4.
I do not know where the time has gone.
For some reason, she still felt like a "baby" at 3, but 4 seems so grown up.
She knows way more than I ever thought a 4 year old would.  She's super smart and very funny!  She's extremely shy around people she doesn't know.  She loves chocolate and going to school.  She's very thoughtful and always thinking of others.

Her birthday celebration actually started last weekend in Metamora.  She had so much fun playing with her cousins and loved her surprise birthday party!

I was surprised this morning when she woke up and forgot that it was her birthday!  She has been counting down the days for so long.  We started the day out with cinnamon rolls.... and sang Happy Birthday with candles and all!  Even though the temperature was -6, we were determined to get out and do something.

We bundled up and went to the mall, which is one of her favorite things to do.  We went to Build-a-Bear Workshop for the first time.

It was a fun experience for both of us!

And the celebration isn't over.....  we are having another little birthday party with Lolo and Lola this weekend!  What a lucky girl!

my favorite lunch dates

With the below zero temps and the wind chill in the -20's, we are stuck inside today since they cancelled school.  I was just looking through the pictures on my phone and found some of these 3 cuties that came to visit me at work last week!

They found the ice cream and had to have some!!

I see lots of cookies in our future!

Ever since I registered for my wedding, I have wanted a Kitchen Aid mixer.  Thanks to my mom, my dream finally came true this Christmas!!  It was a surprise for sure!

Alexis and I tried it out the other night and made cookies.  It was so easy and fun!

Our next adventure will be trying to make a princess cake.  Someone's birthday is 16 days away.... she's not counting or anything! :)  I wasn't planning on having a big party but she has other ideas.  She wants a princess cake and lots of balloons!

Christmas with the Smocks

We spent last weekend in Metamora celebrating Christmas with the Smock's.  We beat a big snow storm by rushing down there Saturday afternoon instead of Sunday and ended up staying 2 nights because the weather was so bad.  The wind chill was in the -50's, we got almost a foot of snow and because it was blowing everywhere, it wasn't safe for us to travel back home until Monday.  It wasn't even the greatest road conditions then, but we had to make it back for Albert to work.  We even had to jump start my car that morning but we made it back!

Alexis and Andrew had a blast playing with their cousins!

They loved their new presents too!

Alexis started back to preschool on Wednesday after having 2 weeks off.  Andrew loved his time alone to play with mommy.  And this is what he chose to play.....
Alexis's new princess game!
He also loves playing dolls with her new stroller and highchair!
